Monogrammed Clutch - Just the Right Size!

Sometimes all you need is a small bag for your keys and phone. This little clutch is perfect... add a cute little embroidery design or monogram from Joyful Stitches and you are set to go. My finished clutch is about 5 inches by 8 inches and has a magnetic closure. It is fully lined.

For this project I selected Joyful Stitches' Palmetto Moon Monogram Set and used the "K" design. You will also need some faux leather (2 pieces 8x15 inches) and a magnetic snap. I wanted a girlie touch to the bag's front flap, so I made a scalloped edge pattern piece in the correct size to make sure that the scallops were spaced correctly. I transferred this to the fabric edge and cut the scallops on both the lining and the outside pieces.

Next, stitch your monogram in the center of the scalloped flap of the outer fabric piece. Place your fabric pieces wrong sides together and determine where your magnetic snap should be placed. Attach one snap to the lining and the other to the main piece so that when assembled they will match up. Stitch the perimeter of the two fabric pieces completely. Fold the lower third up and stitch both sides together. Fold the flap down and snap. All done! These make a great gift too!
